Good Times

I happened to be looking up something online when I came across a roller skating rink. . . don't ask. Anyway, it took me back to my youth and the Franconia Roller Rink that I used to go to in Springfield. Man, I could skate. At least, I thought I could. I couldn't do any tricks like skating backwards or circles, but I sure could fly around that ring and sure had loads of fun doing it. . . except during couples songs. I never had anyone to couples skate with.

Fast forward to the present, I think if I went roller skating now, I'd probably be bored to death. Somehow, the idea of just going around that oval over and over again sounds boring now. I don't know. Just thinking.

Funny Site O' The Day

In case you haven't noticed it, there is a new link on my blog that I added a couple of weeks ago. It's for a funny website called Cake Wrecks. If you haven't checked it out yet, it's a great blog with pictures of cakes gone wrong. From mispellings to phallic looking cakes to an amazing number of cakes with what looks like poo on them. It also occasionally has pics of some really great cakes, but the bad ones make the site worth looking at. There are a lot of pages, but I think it's worth it to go through them all. I definitely recommend checking out the Christmas and Thanksgiving cakes.

Thanks for the link, Andi!

Let's Go To The Movies

You may remember me mentioning a couple of years ago that my buddy and I went and saw all of the movies up for the Best Picture Oscar in one sitting. Well, you'll be glad to know that we just bought our tickets for this year's AMC Best Picture Showcase.

For those who don't remember or have never heard of it, each year, the AMC movie theater chain does a special screening of all the movies that are up for Best Picture the Saturday before the Oscars. It's an all day event that includes unlimited popcorn and trivia games and prizes.

This year is a little different, though. Because there are now ten movies up for Best Picture, they've made the screaning a two day event, Feb. 27 and Mar. 6, with five movies each day.

Folks, if you like movies, it's a great deal. It's $50 if you buy it in person and $40 if you have an AMC Moviewatcher Card. Or, you can do just one day which is $30 and $25 respectively. And, like I said, that includes unlimited popcorn.

Believe it or not, some of the theaters even offer a 24hour showing, where you see all ten movies in one day. Now, that's a little too much for me, but I think the idea of it is pretty cool.

Check it out!

Addictive Commercials

This is one that was pointed out to me some time ago by a few people. I just realized that I hadn't posted it yet.

OMG!!!

I just read the best thing ever. Simon Fuller is collaborating with the Spice Girls to create a musical based on their music and named after their hit "Viva Forever." Think "Mamma Mia", but with Spice Girls songs. And, it's being produced by "Mamma Mia" producer Judy Craymer. They expect the musical to hit the London stage two to three years from now.

Craymer said that it would be "a unique celebration of the band and its music, with its own flavor and joyful message. It is important to me that the excitement, style and humor of The Spice Girls is well represented on stage." Um, I don't know about all that. But, I do know that if it makes it here to the U.S., I'll be first in line. And, when Toby's Dinner Theatre does it some seven years from now, I'll have a front table seat.

Kerplunk

I had to go out and do some errands this morning. When I went outside, it was like a scene out of "The Birds." There were robins all over the house and yard and trees. Later, when I got back home, I realized why. There's a tree in our neighbors yard across the street that has some sort of berries growing on it. The birds in and around our yard, as well as our next door neighbors' yards, were flying back and forth to the tree.

I didn't think anything of it until later in the day when I happened to look out the window. Folks, those damn birds had a field day on my car.

Of course, it was all over the driveway also. And, the front yard reeked of bird poop.

Now, to prove how dedicated to my Haven Dwellers I am, I risked going out with my camera. While I was taking pictures, I could hear poop dropping all around me. *PLOP PLOP PLOP* I kept looking up and trying to stand in spots where there were no birds in the tree above the driveway. Not easy. Then, as I took this last picture, KERSPLAT. Right on my shoulder. Ugh! The things I do for my Haven Dwellers.

Now, I have no idea why this happened on this one particular day. Maybe the berries happened to reach the perfect ripeness. I don't know. But, I do know that that morning the tree had red all over it. By the evening, the tree was all green.

Yesterday, I went to the store right when the snow began and got home when it just started to get heavy. Because my car was still warm, the first bit of snow that fell melted some before it started to stick. I didn't think anything of it until this morning when I went out to clear off my car. Here's what I found. The melted snow created poopsicles on the front of my car.

Blast From My Past

I was looking up something on YouTube today when I came across a treasure chest. Back in the ol' West End Dinner Theatre days, the local cable company would come and film commercials to run on their cable access channel. Well, somehow I came across a commercial that I was a part of. Check it out!

This one was actually filmed at the cable company's studio.

Return Of The Captain

I just read the coolest thing. I read that Disney is re releasing Captain EO this February at Disneyland. Man, if I lived in Califorinia, I would so be there.

I remember seeing that movie back when I was a freshman in high school. . . and I loved it. And it was the first polorized 3D movie I had ever seen, and the first 4D experience I had ever had.

After reading the article, I decided to check and see whether the movie was on YouTube so that I could relive my experience. It was, of course. Now, did I relive my experience? Well. Not quite. The movie was a lot cheesier than I remember. The script was well. . . Um. . . Obviously, the movie was another vehicle for Michael Jackson to share his many talents.

Anyway, if you've never seen it, or want to relive it like I tried to, here it is.

Room Service

Well gee. Evidently, Holiday Inn in Britain is offering a new service, human bed warmers. You know how you get to your hotel after a long flight or a busy day, ready to plop down on the bed and sleep, but you have trouble sleeping because the bed is so cold? Well, Holiday Inn will send in a "bed warmer" in a sleeper suit who will lay under the covers for five minutes to warm up your bed. You know, I could use a second job. I wonder how much that pays.

Maybe the next perk they'll offer will be fluffers. . . WHOA!!!

The Tax Man Don't Cometh

Good news! My chances of being audited by the IRS are next to none. Why, you ask? Well, according to the IRS itself, I have a 1 in 100 chance that I'll be audited because I show income less than $200K a year. Phew! No where near that thankfully. . . Uh, wait a minute.

I suppose I wouldn't mind the increased risk of an audit if I made that much, or more. At that amount, I'd probably be able to afford an audit anyway. But, for now, I'm pretty much in the clear.

Maybe I shouldn't mention that I got a prize for winning third place in my fantasy football league.
