Trick-Or-Treat!

I must give credit for this pic to datajockeys.net

You know, in the almost seven years that I've lived where I am currently, I have had a total of three trick-or-treaters. One of those was my upstairs neighbors who, on their way to a party, decided to stop at all the doors in our building on the way to their car.

When I was a kid, trick-or-treating was something that you looked forward to all year long. And bonus that I lived in an apartment complex. We would rake in way more candy in way less time than my friends who lived in houses. Hell, in one building, you had twelve doors to knock on and usually all except about two people in each building would answer their doors.

And this was during the whole "razor in the apple", "poisoned candy", and "child abductions" myths. Did you know that the month of October has the fewest non-family child abductions.

By the way, what is so fun about the "fun size" candy you get at Halloween? I Think the "king size" is much more fun.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Charlie Booooooooooorown

I know my last post was a Halloween suggestion, but I wanted to make this recommendation today because it will actually be on TV tonight.
Today's recommendation is "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown". For me, it's not holiday season until I've seen a Charles Schulz Classic. This movie always takes me back to being a kid, when I would wait anxiously for it to come on TV. Now I don't have to wait. A few years ago, the lovely MissTamarin bought me the Peanuts box set, which also includes  "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas".
So if you are home tonight, check out ABC at 8pm. If not, rent this movie when you can. And if you can't do either, I've heard that it can be found here.

Boooooooogie Night

Today's Halloween suggestion is "The Nightmare Before Christmas". But don't just rent the DVD. If you have a chance, go see it in 3-D, playing in theaters right now. I did last night and it was great. I had actually never seen the movie all the way through before, so I thought this would be a great way to see it for the first time.

It's amazing how they can take a 2-D movie and convert it to 3-D. This 3-D experience was a little different from 3-D movies I've seen before where the movie is all about making things come out at you from the screen. This one feels more like you are in a room watching a live production. Plus, they also give you some pretty high quality 3-D glasses which look more like a pair of shades than your typical 3-D glasses.

I also recommend making an evening of it with food and friends. After the movie, Joey, Larry, and I ate at
P. F. Changs. (sorry, no pictures)

Post O' The Week

My favorite post this week is "The Weekend" over at The Follow Spot. A fun, funny, and sad post about Mark and his visit home.

I'll Be Home For . . . Autumn

Yesterday I drove to Harrisonburg to pick up my sister from college. I've said before that I like driving long distances. Bonus that it's autumn and I got to take in the fall foliage. So, of course I brought my camera.

I took a few shots on my way out there.

Then, on my way back, my sister took over my camera. I wish I could post all of the pictures she took, but you know I like to keep my posts short. But here's a small sample of the pictures she took.

The coolest thing happened. We were driving along when we passed this cool blue tree. It smelled great too.
Then we got attacked by this bear. Oh. . . wait a minute. That's my sister EMU bear

By the way, why did one of my sister's dorm mates ask if I was her father?

This Is Your, Once A Year Day!

I happened to glance at the archives on my blog today and realized that BruDog Haven has been around for a whole year. Actually, it's been a year and two days. My first post was the pictures from the West End's 1996 production of "Leader Of The Pack".

So many memories. Mark smoking in the staff room. That "Chez Smooch" sign that we used in three different shows. Ron before his weight loss. Monique singing, "I have a boyfriend" (what is that song anyway). Monique singing anything. Shauna singing "Look Of Love". Shimmer drape. Tracie Thoms before she became a television and movie star. Wigs galore. Oh, and of course, taking pictures of my Carla.

The Minority Party

Around this time, about ten years ago, I was visiting three friends who lived together in an apartment complex. I got out of my car and headed up to their apartment. As I entered the hallway of their building, I saw a notice on the hallway bulletin board. It was about a neighborhood Halloween party that the apartment complex sponsored each year. But, here's the kicker. In big bold letters on this invite was the phrase, "Come All You Spooks And Gooks!" No, readers I am not kidding. I'm hoping that someone innocently put that on there and maybe didn't realize what they were saying. The funny thing was that my friends who lived in this complex hadn't even notice that unfortunate phrase on the invite.

I guess it's a good thing that the Blacks and Koreans are finally partying together in racial harmony.

Some Booooooo For Yoooooou

I thought that since it is now October, and we are approaching Halloween, I would do a series of posts on some of my favorite scary or not so scary Halloween appropriate movies.

The first is the family friendly movie, "The Addam's Family".

I generally don't like remakes of old TV shows, but I really think this one was done well. And with a great cast including Angelica Houston, Christina Ricci (who steals the movie), and the great Raul Julia, this is one of those movies that I watch every time it's on TV.

So whether you have or haven't seen this movie, check it out the next time you're at your local video rental store or online rental site.

My favorite quote from the movie:
Girl Scout: Is this made from real lemons?
Wednesday: Yes.
Girl Scout: I only like all-natural foods and beverages, organically grown, with no preservatives. Are you sure they're real lemons?
Pugsley: Yes.
Girl Scout: I'll tell you what. I'll buy a cup if you buy a box of my delicious Girl Scout cookies. Do we have a deal?
Wednesday: Are they made from real Girl Scouts?

Are You Ready For Some Football?!

Wow! The Redskins playing the Giants and the Eagles playing the Cowboys tomorrow. Could you ask for a better day of football? And of course, I'll be at work.

It's a funny sight in my office on Sunday's during football season. Our office is in the bowels of the building, so we get no TV or radio reception. The only way we can keep track of the games is on the
NFL's website. The site has a grid that looks like a football field, and the helmet of whichever team has possession shows up wherever the line of scrimmage is. We all sit around our desks waiting for the screen to refresh.

I usually record the Redskins games and watch them at home. The good thing is that I can watch an entire football game in about 45 minutes.

Bounce Wit' Me

So last night I went into my bedroom to close the blinds. I happened to look over at my neighbors' balcony window and saw a women bouncing up and down on a bed (stop me if you've heard this one).

HA HA! GOTCHA! This isn't a chica-a-bowow story. This time she was actually just bouncing and laughing on the bed, as opposed to the last time I saw her bouncing in the apartment.

I know you all think that all I do is sit there looking out of my bedroom window waiting to catch them in the act, but I don't. It just so happens that the buildings are staggered. So it's very easy to see in. And just like anybody else, I automatically look out of any window that I'm about to close the blinds on.

You've gotta believe me!
