Manly Mix

One of my favorite mixed drinks is a Cape Cod. But, I often times feel funny ordering one because, . . well. . . it isn't the most manly name for a drink. So, depending on where I am, I'll sometimes order a vodka and cranberry instead. Well, now I won't have to feel emasculated when I order one anymore. Why? Because, I've been watching Celebrity Apprentice this season. One of the contestants is Dennis Rodman. Dennis' drink of choice? Vodka and cranberry.

Now, he doesn't ask for it as a Cape Cod, but I figure if someone as manly as Dennis Rodman can drink it, then I can feel proud, raising my glass and declaring, "I'm drinking a Cape Cod!" Of course, Dennis did get married wearing a bridal gown. He also ruined the latest task on the show by drinking too many Cape Cods.

Oh well. Next time I go to a bar, I'll just order a Frangelico, Chambord, and cream (look it up).

Going Down South Up North

I'm a big fan of the sitcom "How I Met Your Mother." Haven't missed an episode. I was just watching this past Monday's episode which I DVR'd. Part of the plot line was about Canadian names for certain sex acts. Names like the Full Mountie, the Montreal Meatpie, and the Reverse Rick Moranis. They then made reference to a website called Canadian Sex Acts.org. I was curious, so I checked it out. Yes, there is an actual site. Very funny. Check it out.

*Disclaimer* For those concerned, the site IS actually office appropriate.

Black Comedy

Mark would appreciate this one.

I was watching the president's news conference this evening. Actually, I was doing some chores while listening to the conference in the background. I happened to turn around when the president called on a reporter who happened to be black. In my own head, I joked to myself, "What magazine does he represent? Ebony?" Literally, a second after I thought that, "Kevin Chappell - Ebony" pops up at the bottom of the screen. I cracked myself up, and there was no one with whom I could share the joke. . . Not that it was all that much of a joke. . . Not that he was the only black reporter there. . . Not that I can get away with that joke, just because I'm black. . . Not that. . . Oh bother!

The Most Tasty Time Of The Year

Dwellers, tomorrow is one of the most important days of the year. It's the first day of spring. Why is that important? Because, the first day of spring means that Rita's Ice opens for the season. And, why is that important? Two words: FREE ICES. From noon to 10pm, you can get a free Italian ice to celebrate the season opening.

Mark actually turned me on to Rita's Ice years ago. He'd talk about it on his blog all the time. I figured, what's the big deal. Then I had my first one. I liked it so much that I called Mark on the spot. Ah. . . I'll never forget my first time. I mean, my first taste. I mean, my first Rita's Ice.

BTW, my favorite flavor? Watermelon! . . Just kidding. It's banana.

Memory Lane

I played Bru Bear in the West End's annual production of Babes In Toyland for ten years straight. I loved every minute of it. Two things always warmed my heart when I did the production, the moment when we'd each bring a child up on stage during the final "Toyland" song, and seeing the families that would come back year after year, including my own.

So, why this trip down memory lane? Well, this past Saturday, I cleaned out my desk drawers, something I've been meaning to do for years. Mostly what I found were old bills and statements. However, what inspired today's post was an envelope that I had forgotten I had from Girl Scout Troop 2906.

Back in 1995, Troop 2906 was working on it's theater badge. One of the girls' tasks was to watch a professional apply makeup. Well, since I was a toy bear in the show, I was the obvious choice. So, they got to watch me and ask questions and then see the performance afterward.

Weeks later, I received an envelope at the theater. That envelope was filled with letters that each of the girls from troop 2906 wrote to me, thanking me for the opportunity. I had forgotten that I still had those letters until I found them while cleaning.

I've included my favorites throughout this post. The last one is my most favorite.

If You Only New The Power Of Fitness

Check out what I saw on Fox 5 Morning News today. They did a story about the Combattitude Fighting Fitness Academy in Columbia, MD and it's C.L.A.N.S. Of The Revolution class. Right now, you're probably saying, "Clans of what?" Well, it's a Lightsaber fitness class. That's right! The class consists of mock Jedi fighting. They actually have plastic light-up Lightsabers that they "fight" with.

Now, when I first saw this, I figured how geeky can you get? A bunch of nerdy guys pretending to be Luke Skywalker. But, guess what. They didn't all look geeky. And, there were women in the class, including some sistahs. And, the instructer is actually a Hollywood fight choreographer/stunt man with credits including Blade and Spiderman. As I watched more and more of the segment, it looked kind of fun. And, they're getting exercise in the process. They even had one guy who "works out" there three times a week who has lost fifty pounds. Hey, if the force helps you lose weight. I say, "Use the force!"

BTW, in case you were wondering, C.L.A.N.S. stands for Clans, Legions. Aliens, Nobles, and Soldiers.

Big Nayasty Dogs

Many who know me rarely see me without one of my Big Dogs T-Shirts. Well I have to say, I've been a getting a little annoyed with the direction that the company seems to be headed. I've always been a huge fan of Big Dogs Sportswear, but I'm finding that they seem to be putting out more and more crude and rude T-Shirts.

On a recent visit to Big Dogs' website, I came across many a shirt with sayings such as "Grab Your Balls" and "You're Stupid", as well as shirts about farts and boobs.

Now, they've always had a few shirts that were graphic. But recently, each time I go to their site, there seems to be less and less G rated shirts. I don't know. Maybe it's just that I'm getting older. After all, many of those shirts are under the "Best Sellers!" category. Someone must be buying them.

Chic-A-Bowow In The USA

How 'bout this? A study was done recently on internet porn tendencies in the US. Using data from a major online adult content pay website, researchers found that throughout the country, internet porn is prevalent, no matter where you live. However, they also discovered that the states that pay for the most online porn tended to be the more conservative and religious states. Evidently, out of the top ten states paying for online porn, eight of those gave their electoral votes to John McCain in the last election. BTW, the biggest consumer? Utah.

What shocks me about this isn't that conservative states pay for more porn than liberal states, but that these people are paying for online porn. You can get that stuff on the web for free quite easily. . . At least, that's what I hear.

Ho-Hum

Haven dwellers, I have to tell you. I am all blogged out. I have nothing to post. I haven't been anywhere this week. I haven't come across any interesting articles. I've run out of fun quizzes. I don't know. Maybe BruDog Haven should go on a hiatus. . . Nah! I'll think of something.

In the meantime, it's snowing right now. I was going to fire up the grill, but then, I just didn't feel like it this time. But, for some reason, I felt the need to grab my camera and go outside.

Well. . . OK. . . Until next time.
