I Deserve A Break Today

Sometimes, on my way home from work, I like to stop at the McDonalds drive-thru for an ice cream cone. Now, since I'm driving, I always ask for a cup for the ice cream cone. Afterall, I really don't want to drive around with ice cream dripping down my hand. I would say that about 80% of the time, when I ask for a cup, I get a puzzled look from the employees. After they finally figure out what I am asking for, about 90% of the workers try to turn the ice cream cone upside down into the cup, as opposed to just putting the cup over the ice cream and then flipping it over.


About two weeks ago, I stopped for a cone. As usual, I asked for a cup. The worker's response, "A WHAT?! YOU WANT A WHAT?!" After shouting at me, I guess she still didn't understand. So, she went and asked a manager, who gave her a funny look. Then, in a matter of fact way, told her to give me a cup.


A cup?! Is that such an odd request?

Five Rings Of Crap

I was recently watching an episode of Fat Albert (remember that) on Netflix. The episode was about those ads you use to find in the back of kids magazines and comic books that got you to sell a bunch of overpriced crap that no one wanted in order to earn prizes.

It took me back to my youth, when I became a salesman for the Olympic Sales Club after finding their ad in the back of Boys Life Magazine. I remember getting a prize catalog with tons of cool stuff I could earn like microscopes and rafts and radios. All I had to do was sell a bunch of stationary and wrapping paper, that is if I could find any suckers to buy them. Of course, none of my friends had money to buy the crap. And, bless my mom's heart for taking the product catalogue to work.

So, you're probably asking, "Did you sell anything? Did you earn any prizes?" Well, you'll be glad to know that I did sell enough to earn a calculator watch, which, by the way, broke a week later.

An Excess Of Access

Our household recently switched from DirecTV to FIOS. I loved having DTV, but you don't get a lot of the local content that you get with the local cable company or FIOS, local content like cable access, my new obsession.

I was channel surfing the other day, when I came across channel 10, one of a handful of cable access channels available in my county. I ended up watching for about two hours. Dwellers, is cable access meant to beat Comedy Central Local?

In that two hours, I learned how the county transit service is trained to be courteous, I watched some woman sitting on her sofa talking about another family member, I learned what to do if I get stuck in my car in the event of a blizzard, and I watched some old guy give a rather lengthy review of the recent "Alice In Wonderland" movie. Oh, and a couple of days ago, I watched a community awareness program about domestic abuse. It was very informative, although when the host introduced the guest, who was an expert on the topic, they played an applause track that ended just as abruptly as it started (If any of you remember some of the films that came out of Janoose Productions, you know what I'm talking about). Priceless!

It makes me wonder what kind of cable access show could I do?

White Porcelain

Anyone who has visited central Florida has probably seen this commercial for Appliance Direct. Their commercials happen to be a favorite of Joey's, which he enjoys everytime he vacations at Disneyworld.

It was hard to pick just one because they have so many great commercials, but I think I found my favorite.

Good Times

I happened to be looking up something online when I came across a roller skating rink. . . don't ask. Anyway, it took me back to my youth and the Franconia Roller Rink that I used to go to in Springfield. Man, I could skate. At least, I thought I could. I couldn't do any tricks like skating backwards or circles, but I sure could fly around that ring and sure had loads of fun doing it. . . except during couples songs. I never had anyone to couples skate with.

Fast forward to the present, I think if I went roller skating now, I'd probably be bored to death. Somehow, the idea of just going around that oval over and over again sounds boring now. I don't know. Just thinking.

Funny Site O' The Day

In case you haven't noticed it, there is a new link on my blog that I added a couple of weeks ago. It's for a funny website called Cake Wrecks. If you haven't checked it out yet, it's a great blog with pictures of cakes gone wrong. From mispellings to phallic looking cakes to an amazing number of cakes with what looks like poo on them. It also occasionally has pics of some really great cakes, but the bad ones make the site worth looking at. There are a lot of pages, but I think it's worth it to go through them all. I definitely recommend checking out the Christmas and Thanksgiving cakes.
