Election Day, one of my favorite days of the year. Not because it's my chance to make my voice heard. Not because it makes me proud to be an American. Not because I get to have a hand in how my government is run. It's because I know that when I wake up tomorrow morning, I won't see any more of those annoying political ads all day every day. There are so many, and they play them for so many weeks, that it makes me wonder what commercials are normally played outside of election season.

Gee, now that I think about it, maybe the day after Election Day should be my favorite.

Halloween Quiz

In honor of the Holiday, here's a quiz I found. I got 13 correct, or 68.42%, which means I failed.

To Be, Or Not To Be Nervous

I was once again called on to lend my voice talents to the Workhouse Arts Center this past Sunday, this time for an art show. The show featured donated artwork paired with poems that were inspired by the artwork, and vice versa. Most of the poets who donated their work were there to read their poems for the show. A few weren't able to make it for the show. So, I, along with my good friend Caren, was asked to read their poems. We were also asked to read a few poems by Scott Lange Kirkpatrick, the inspiration behind the event. Scott, who was killed in Iraq, was very much into poetry. His mother Marti, who is also the Studio Manager for the Workhouse, created the event to honor him and to raise money for the Yellow Ribbon Fund, a charity that helps injured soldiers and their families.

Now, I've said this before, I don't get most poetry, so I was very nervous about doing this. Fortunately, a few days before, Marti sat down with me and explained the pieces and coached me a little on delivery. After taking it home and putting myself into the poems, I was able to read them aloud.

With a room full of poets and aficionados, I was a little intimidated. But, I guess I did OK, because I actually got a bunch of compliments on my readings. One of the poets even said that I should have read all the poems. I chuckled and thanked him, of course. But, inside I'm thinking, "Nooooo waaaaay!" Evidently, I read so well that most of the people who complimented me were very surprised when I revealed that I had never read poetry aloud for an audience before. Gee, I guess all those years reciting that Bru Bear monologue came in handy.

A Gleefull Hello

My apologies. I haven't been in much of a blogging mood lately. I haven't even kept up with everyone else's (I'm sorry friends and favorites). Not that anything is wrong. Nothing bad is going on in my life. It's just that I haven't felt all that creative lately. And, most of my time online is spent on fantasy football. As a matter of fact, I've actually been writing another blog that only a few people see. I've created a sports page for my fantasy football league, which happens to be named after yours truly. It's the BruDog Football League and my sports page is called In And Around The Dog Pound. Pretty clever, eh? Eh? EH?! Anyway, you can check it out if you'd like. There's a link at the bottom of the right hand column of my blog. Although, most won't find it very interesting since it deals with fantasy football and a group of eleven participants.

On a totally different subject, I came across a phenomenon on YouTube today. If you watch the TV show Glee, you may remember the episode where the three cheerleaders audition for the glee club with the song "Say A Little Prayer." Well, evidently imitating that scene has become quite the fad. If you don't watch the show, here's the original. And, here's the imitation that I thought was the cutest, and the best.

Upon more research, I found an even better one. Check it out!

My Beautiful Hood

This past spring, I rediscovered a gem. When I was younger, I happened to be walking when stumbled on this park that I had no idea existed. I decided to take a look, but I didn't like it very much because it just seemed like a bunch of flowers to me. Being a young lad at the time, that didn't interest me at all.

Fast forward to the present, I happened to be on my morning walk near my house, when I remembered that park. Wondering if the park was still there, I decided to go and see, especially since it's location is only a few blocks from me.

Well, Green Spring Garden Park was still there. Although, it was nothing like I remembered. . . probably because I'm a lot more mature now. Anyway, it's this great park that's dedicated to gardening education. You can even go to the parks website and see information and care instructions on every breed of plant life they have at the park.

Of course, since I got a new camera, I had to take pictures. That first one is the entrance.
This is the pedestrian path leading into the park, and a random plant that I love because it's so huge.

There are two main areas to the park. These pics are of the lake area. There are two lakes that are separated by a bridged path and a gazebo.

To get to the other main area of the park, there is a trail that winds through the woods.

The other main section is an open area with a bricked path that circles the park.

The park has a horticultural center where you can learn about gardening. All of the plant life is labeled for reference.

They also have various fruit trees, and vegetable and herb gardens.

Here are a couple of shots of the beautiful landscaping.

And finally, the back entrance to the park.

Things That Make You Go Why

Why do people insist on buying cigarettes at the grocery store? I guess maybe it's cheaper or something. I don't know. Or, maybe my beef isn't with people buying cigarettes at the grocery store. Maybe it's the fact that, when they do, they always seem to choose the register that is the farthest away from the cigarette display case at the customer service counter, which means the cashier has to walk all the way to the other side of the store. And then, the cashier can never seem to find the right brand. Actually, I guess my problem is that this always happens in the line I choose.

Why?!

Say Cheese

Well, as I mentioned in the previous post, I bought a new camera. After comparing prices and features, and checking user reviews, I settled on the Samsung SL102. Folks, it's a whole lot of camera packed into a $99 price.

At first, I was little annoyed with having to buy a new camera because I didn't want to spend the money and I was happy with the old relic that I had. Now that I have the new one, I'm kinda glad. Now I can add pics to my posts again and add to "My Photo Diary." And, this camera can record almost two hours of video. I'm so excited!

Of course, now I have to look at buying a new computer to replace the eight year old one that has just about died on me. Ugh!
