Another Summer Blockbuster

I got to see Hancock last night with my good friend Ryan and my #1 Dena. I must say, great movie. There is so much I'd like to tell you about the movie, but I can't for fear of ruining it for you. I can tell you that what you see in the commercials isn't necessarily what you get in the film. Let me explain. I was worried that all the good parts were shown in the commercials, but not to worry. The movie takes you in a direction that you don't expect at all.

I was expecting a typical superhero movie. Not so. The movie feels like someone went to a comedy/fantasy/drama writer (as opposed to a comic book writer) and said, "Write me a good character story, then I'll make that character a superhero."

Folks, let me just say, "See this movie!" You won't be disappointed. I think Will Smith has another summer hit here.

Gimme A Ticket For An Airplane

I went on a field trip with Joey, Krissy, and Kevin this past Saturday to the National Air and Space Museum at Dulles for their "Become a Pilot Family Day and Aviation Display". In addition to the museum's normal display of planes indoors, they had an outdoor aviation display with visiting vintage, recreational, and home built aircraft flown in by their owners. You could actually ask the pilots and owners question about their planes and about flying. Some of the pilots also let visitors get in the planes.

This is a shot of the "Wall Of Honor" leading up to the entrance of the museum. There are names of pioneers and enthusiasts etched on those panels on the sides.

These are a few shots I took inside the museum. I didn't take many interior pictures because it's a little dark in the certain areas. I assume that's to preserve the items on display.

Next, it was on to the planes outside. This is an interesting shot because. . . well. . . I used to be a white man until I stuck my face in the back of that jet engine. I had wondered what that "beware of blast" meant.

The plane below actually belonged to The Flintstones. If you click on the photo to enlarge it, you will notice feet under the plane which is how they get the plane going down the runway. . . I is highlarious!
Also, WRC's traffic copter was on display. I need to get me one of those to get to and from work.
They also had a few military aircraft including this huge cargo plane which, we found out from one of the crewmen, was used to transport Shamu.
This is a shot of the cargo plane taken from the wing of a midair refueling plane. You could actually go into both planes and sit in the cockpit. The cargo plane was so huge that you actually had to climb up a steep staircase to get to the cockpit.
I must say, the whole thing was pretty cool. . . Actually, it wasn't very cool. It was fairly hot out. The heat inside the cargo plane and the refueler was like a sauna. But, I have to tell you, it was worth it. How often do you get to go into the cockpit of a military plane. I'll definitely go back next year. Thanks for the great idea Joey!

Quiz Time

It's quiz time again! This one has nothing to do with food, but it's meant to make you feel dumb.

And now, the "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?" quiz!

I'm proud to say that I got 9 out of 10 right! I won't tell you which one I got wrong.

Where A Kid Can Be A Drunk Adult

Wondering where you should have your child's next birthday party? How 'bout Chuck E. Cheese? But not just any CEC. This would be the Brookfield, Wisconsin location. Evidently, this is the happening CEC.

This Chuck E. Cheese has had over 80 police calls in the past year. "Why?!", you say. Well, because they seem to have a problem with parents getting drunk at the bar and fighting at this particular restaurant. One fight actually involved 40 people.

Now, I say why fight? Can't we all just get along? Besides, I have the perfect solution. I say, duke it out on Whack-A-Mole. That's right! Take that mallet and knock it upside their head!

I cracks me up. . .

Buy Me Some Peanuts And Umbrellas

So, as you saw in the previous post, I won tickets to this past Saturday's Potomac Nationals game.
Let me tell you, it was the best game ever! Sucka, Andi, and I went to the game at about 7:45. It was hot, but we could see clouds in the distance and figured we'd get a little rain which would probably cool things down a little.

1st inning: Some dark clouds in the distance.

2nd inning: Dark clouds in the distance are somewhat closer and producing some lightning.

3rd inning: Somewhat closer dark clouds in the distance, producing some lightning, are now right over us.

Well, a few claps of thunder sounded close by. That's when most of the crowd started to leave. We decided to stay. We figured, if the players are still playing, we are going to stay. So, the inning went on. As we sat there talking, both Sucka and Andi said almost at the same time, "Why are all the players running?!" As I looked up, I realized why and pointed out the wall of rain coming across the field.

So of course, the game stopped as they shuffled us out of the stands. Well, we didn't want to leave because we figured it might be a quick storm and that they would play ball right after it ended. But at the moment, it was still raining and we needed a dry place to stand. I'm not sure who's idea it was, but we decided to stand under the bleachers. You can see in the below picture why that was a bad idea.
As you can see, the bleachers are open, so we were still getting wet. Not as bad as above the stands, but still. . . Under the bleachers, there is a concession stand that is kind of a shed-like structure. They only use it when there is a huge crowd for the games. There wasn't much of a crowd that day, so it was closed. Well, Sucka decided to try the employee entrance door in back of the shed. Success! It was unlocked! So we went in. Folks, it was like a sauna in there.

Since it was almost 100ยบ most of the day and the shed had not been used, it was burning up in there. . . but, we were dry. We stayed in the shed for about fifteen minutes. It was fun and funny but also a little scary. During that time, there were many a close thunder clap. Then the lights in the stadium went out. Oh, did I also mention that the wind blew the door shut. BTW, during all this, we couldn't hear anyone else. So, factor in the pouring rain, the thunder and lightning, the pitch black, the hot shed, no one else around, and the door closing by itself. It sounds like something out of a movie.

Since Sucka was furthest from the door, I asked him to take a picture so you could see our perspective. Unfortunately, all I had with me was my cell phone camera with no flash. So, that dark figure is me and that highlighted figure is Andi. When the rain finally let up, we came out of the shed. There were actually a few people still there. And, the players had stayed in the dugout, so they were still there also. We stayed around a little while longer to see what would happen next. All of a sudden, the announcer came on the loud speaker. "Ladies and gentlemen, that are still here, we are going to set off the fireworks in five minutes!" Woohoo!!! So, we still got to see the fireworks that they normally do every Saturday home game. Well, we went back up into the stands, walked over to the higher priced box seats (the wet box seats), sat down, and watched the fireworks show.

Haven Dwellers, it was the best time ever. And, you'll be glad to know that I've already started work on the screenplay.

'is Mus' Be My Lucky Day

Hey, guess what! I won! I won tickets to a Nationals game. OK, it's the Potomac Nationals (the minor league affiliate), but hey, it's free tickets. Besides, I go to their games regularly anyway.
I was at work yesterday when I got a call from the P-Nats saying that I had won their Miller Lite 6-Pack Sweepstakes, and that there would be six tickets waiting for me for this Saturday's game. I had actually forgotten that I had even entered the drawing.

Gee, maybe I should play the lottery right now, because I also won a game of Killer Bunnies the other day at Caren's house (I assume she'll blog about the game some time soon).

On The Ice Again

Folks, one of my favorite shows is back. Ice Road Truckers! In case you didn't see it last year, there are a bunch of diamond mines up in northern Canada. The only way to efficiently get supplies to the mines is by truck. But, there is only about a two and a half month window to deliver the supplies because they actually have to drive the trucks across the frozen lakes. It's so great because you can actually hear the ice cracking and shifting under the trucks. And, there's always the danger of going through the ice. I love it!

So, if your looking for a summer show to tie you over until the fall season, check it out. It comes on the History Channel on Sundays at 9pm.

You know, I've often said that my next career is going to be a big rig driver. Not necessarily on the ice roads, though.

People Suck

I'm sad to report that, sometime between this past Thursday and Saturday, some F#*% stole one of my license plates. Now, those of you who know me well and have seen my car know how much those personalized plates mean to me.

What sucks even more is that I can't get new plates until Tues. when the DMV is open. What sucks even more than that is that I can't drive my car until I get new plates. What sucks the worst is that I can no longer get those personalized plates because it's now on the national registry of stolen license plates.

I've been upset about this for the past two days. Did I mention people suck?
